Why you should service your PS5 annually
We had 2 PS5’s come in today – both were overheating and shutting down from overheating. This is very common and can be avoided. Having called up it was pretty obvious they just needed servicing to solve the issue.
Why does your PS5 overheat ?
In almost all cases it is a combination of a build up of dirt and debris inside the console blocking the airflow. The power supply and heat sinks (used to dissipate heat) get clogged up with fluff and therefore cannot get sirlow to cool – simply leading to overheating.
What causes a PS5 to overheat ?
Lack of airlow and in a lot of cases where the PS5 has been stood vertically and gracity has caused the liquid metal to pool at the bottom of the APU there wil be bald spots where there is no liquid metal to allow heat dissipation and the APU therefore heats – the CPU recognioses hogh temperatures and shuts the console down as a protection methid.
What does dirt build up look like inside a console ?
You can see fron these photos the fluff and dirt has accumulated around the air intake for the power supply and also is ingested into the heatsink. This buildup reduces the available airflow to the console and reduces heat dissapation.

The APU bald spot causing overeating
You can see from these pictures that there is no liquid metal on some areas of the APU – this causes incorrect heat dissapation and in the areas where these is no liquid metal the CPU will detect heat spots and shut the console down to self-protect itself. Oftent he fan runfs faster and louder as it tries to cool itself down.
These bald spots are commonly see in colsoles that are stood vertically as gravity acts and pulls the liquid metal downwards. This isn’t seen in colsoles that have been used horizontally.

Oxidation on the surface of the APU
After we move the liquid metal aside, prior to removing it altogether, we had to add additional liquid metal to this console as there wasn;t enough of it’s original to do a proper job – we clean the surfaces of oxidation which isn’t a good thing to have on the surfaces. So the liquid metal is gathered up and removed and then the surfaces cleaned and polished with isopropanol alcohol so the surfaces are clean and readt to accect new liquid metal.

What the liquid metal should look like
Each surface should have a colloidal – mercury looking finish with no bald spots. Once they are complete we sandwich the boards back together and screw them into place.

Cheaper annual servicing plans – £65 for first service, only £50 each year after.
We recommend annual services if you are putting your console horizontally as this will continue to happen. We charge £65 for your first service and if you have a service done again 12 months later we will do this for £50 each year after on the anniversary. Giving it a full deep clean and thermal metal refresh for less to help keep your console in excellent condition.
